U.S. Government to Provide Dzud Assistance to 2700 Herder Households
Ulaanbaatar, March 6, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Mongolia Richard L. Buangan on March 4, 2024.
As the spring weather is getting worse in the entire territory of Mongolia, the U.S. Government is joining the campaign to support the herders struggling with the dzud. Thus, Ambassador Richard L. Buangan introduced to the Prime Minister of Mongolia that the U.S. Government would provide an additional USD 700 thousand to the Government of Mongolia.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Mongolia, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene expressed heartfelt gratitude to the U.S. Government for donating USD 200 thousand through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and providing USD 700 thousand through “The Mongolian Red Cross Society” to herders impacted by the dzud.
The aid donated by the U.S. Government is being used to provide hay, veterinary supplies, and financial assistance to 2,700 herder households in the Arkhangai, Bayan-Ulgii, Dornogobi, Dornod, Zavkhan, Sukhbaatar, Tuv, Uvs, and Khovd aimags affected by the dzud.
Ambassador Richard L. Buangan expressed satisfaction with meeting with Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene after the Premier's Official Visit to the United States in August 2023. Mr. Richard L. Buangan noted the successful implementation of decisions reached during the Official Visit and expressed his commitment to pay particular attention to the implementation in the future.
At the Meeting, the two parties affirmed their commitment to strengthening the Strategic Third Neighbor Partnership between Mongolia and the United States and eagerness to expand relations and cooperation between the two countries in all sectors and enrich economic cooperation.
Moreover, the two parties have been prioritizing the establishment of direct flights between the two countries and made a joint decision to focus on launching the flights within this year.
