Ulaanbaatar, June 8, 2023 /MONTSAME/. The Board of Members Meeting (BoMM) of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) was held in Ulaanbaatar on June 5, 2023.

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia and President of the AACC N.Chinbat delivered the opening remarks.

Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia and of the Host Secretariat of the AACC D. Bayanbileg presented the activity report during the presidency of AACC in 2021-2023. In his presentation, he noted, “The activities have continued normally, regularly, and continuously under the motto: Collective trust, collective effort, Collective results.”

The delegations discussed several agendas, including a report by the Constitutional Court of Mongolia on events it organized during its presidency and a report by the Permanent Secretariat of the AACC for Planning and Coordination (SPC), Research and Development (SRD) and Training and Human Resources Development.

As part of the BoMM, the “International Symposium: Protection of Human Rights within the Constitutional Review” of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions took place.

In his opening speech at the Symposium, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia and President of the AACC N.Chinbat noted, “It is our honor, as the Constitutional Court of Mongolia, to witness the expansion of and successful organization of numerous events across multiple countries by the Association, which we have laid the foundation. Despite facing various global and regional challenges during this time, we have managed to strengthen our mutual trust and cooperation.”

“Over the past 30 years, the authority of constitutional courts in countries worldwide to safeguard fundamental human rights has significantly expanded. In this context, the opportunity for individuals and citizens to approach the Constitutional Court and supervisory bodies has become more accessible. In today's society, the role of Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions in protecting human rights and freedoms is increasing. I believe that the AACC will become a bridge and leverage to further develop and refine operations of the constitutional courts of the region”, he continued. Then, he delivered a presentation on “Constitutional Review of Mongolia and the Right to Access to Court”.

In addition, delegations of the constitutional courts of Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Russia, South Korea, Türkiye, Thailand, and Pakistan delivered over 10 presentations on pressing issues, such as the roles of constitutional courts in protecting, ensuring, and encouraging the human rights within the constitutional review.
