OPEN DEBATE OF THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL HELD ON RULE OF LAW

Ulaanbaatar, Jan 16 /MONTSAME/. UN Security Council ministerial-level open debate was held under the theme “Promotion and Strengthening of the Rule of Law in the Maintenance of International Peace and Security: the Rule of Law Among Nations” on January 12, 2023.
Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Enkhbold Vorshilov participated in the open debate. In his address, he reaffirmed Mongolia’s unwavering support for the rule of law, and also highlighted initiatives undertaken towards strengthening international peace and security, such as the Ulaanbaatar Dialogue mechanism, Mongolia’s nuclear-weapon-free status, and on its participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations.
UN Security Council open debate was chaired by the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Security Council, Hayashi Yoshimasa. The UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the International Court of Justice Joan E. Donoghue, and Dapo Akande, Professor of Public International Law at Oxford University briefed the debate. Representatives of more than 70 countries participated in the open debate.
