MONGOLIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TAKES PART IN WORLD ASSEMBLY FOR WOMEN
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia B. Battsetseg took part in the 6th World Assembly for Women (WAW!) which was organized in Tokyo, Japan on December 3.
During the assembly, Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg presented the policy and activities carried out by the Government of Mongolia in the field of ensuring gender equality, protecting women's rights, and expanding their participation at the decision-making level while stressing the need to further increase the participation of women and youth in promoting peace and security throughout the world.
Opening remarks by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was followed by keynote speeches by President of the Republic of Iceland Guðni Thorlacius Johannesson, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Ms. Sima Bahous. Furthermore, video messages were shared from some of the world's leading women, including former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Lemond, and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Anne Hathaway.
The WAW! is an international conference that has been hosted by the Government of Japan since 2014 as a part of its efforts aimed at realizing gender equality and advancing women’s empowerment.
The conference, the first after a two-year break due to the pandemic, brought together 250 speakers from around the world and featured 12 sessions, with themes ranging from wage gaps, entrepreneurship, and education to issues concerning youths and women in rural areas.
