President receives Chief Executive Officer of The Nature Conservancy
President U.Khurelsukh received Chief Executive Officer of The Nature Conservancy Jennifer Morris on August 23.
The President expressed gratitude for the support to conduct an assessment on the Gobi and steppe ecological regions, and researches to determine the areas that need protection, and to provide professional advice and assistance necessary for special protection.
Ms. Jennifer Morris highlighted Mongolia's initiatives and achievements in solving problems caused by climate change, desertification, and biodiversity loss. She also expressed her support for the policy and political leadership of the President of Mongolia in the field of nature conservation.
The President informed of the ‘One Billion Trees’ national movement he has initiated in order to mitigate the impacts of climate change and desertification, and the establishment of the Support Fund for ‘One Billion Trees’ national movement in March this year with aims to attract funds from citizens, the private sector, donor countries, and international organizations.
Ms. Jennifer Morris, in turn, gave information about the possibility of implementing its sustainable finance program for conservancy in Mongolia, which was previously implemented successfully in Canada, Costa Rica, Brazil, Bhutan, and Peru by The Nature Conservancy in cooperation with WWF, ‘PEW Charity’ and ‘ZomaLab’ within the framework of ‘Enduring Earth Partnership’. This program aims to help Mongolia meet its obligations and achieve SDGs within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and Convention on Biological Diversity.
The President expressed his support for the proposal to implement the above program and publicize the results internationally.
