Best Five Works of International Master Planning Competition for New Kharkhorum City to Be Selected
President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa visited an Exhibition that presents the top works of the International Master Planning Competition for New Kharkhorum City.
President Khurelsukh underscored in his speech, “ Revering and following the teachings, deeds, and wisdom of the Great Emperor Chinggis Khaan and the Emperors who succeeded Chinggis Khaan, passing down the statehood values and heritage to the future generations, as well as promoting and disseminating it to the world are the noble duties of Mongolians, heirs of the Great Mongol Empire.”
The "Vision 2050”, Long-Term Development Policy of Mongolia reflects plans to start the establishment of a new city in the Orkhon Valley between 2021 and 2030, defining the location of the new city and developing the feasibility study and the development master plan.
Therefore, President Khurelsukh noted, that the President of Mongolia issued a Decree to Rebuild Kharkhorum, the capital city of the Great Mongol Empire, in Orkhon Valley, the sacred hearth of ancient states of the Mongols, a valuable historical and cultural heritage of the world and emphasized the need to intensify work to ensure the implementation of the Decree.
The New Kharkhorum city should be planned to be an eco-smart city and the center of tourism and administration that incorporates the values of statehood, history, and culture established by our ancestors, supports sustainable development, combines the advantages of nomadic and settled civilizations with modern trends, highlighted President Khurelsukh.
Noting that this historic development will require a large amount of time, budget, labor, and effort, the President of Mongolia said “ We can rebuild New Kharkhorum City if the government and the people come together and work hard for one Goal.”
The President expressed gratitude and wished success to the urban planners, architects, engineers, scholars, judges, and organizers who are taking part in the International Master Planning Competition for New Kharkhorum City and the International Exhibition of Urban Planning, being held in Ulaanbaatar.
The International Exhibition of Urban Planning that opened on July 28, 2024, to present the works of 36 teams from 18 countries that advanced to the second stage of the international open competition and to get public vote closes today. The final selection for the five best teams will take place on August 1, 2024.
The works of 36 teams, selected for the second round of the competition are from 18 countries including Mongolia, China, Russia, Australia, Japan, the UK, Italy, Luxembourg, Indonesia, Greece, India, and Mexico.
