President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa Meets President of Russia Vladimir Putin
Ulaanbaatar, July 4, 2024 /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia H.E. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa met with President of the Russian Federation H.E. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin during his participation as an observer in the 24th summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The two Presidents discussed ways to further deepen and enrich the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Mongolia and Russia. They focused on reducing bilateral trade tariffs and exploring major infrastructure and energy projects.
President Khurelsukh reaffirmed that fostering friendly and good-neighborly relations with Russia is a priority in Mongolia's foreign policy.
The Presidents highlighted the successful progress of negotiations on a free trade agreement between Mongolia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), expressing their commitment to signing the agreement within this year.
The Heads of State concurred that the agreement would not only boost bilateral trade but also expand cooperation in strategic sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and agriculture. It would also encourage the establishment of joint ventures and enterprises.
The Leaders emphasized the importance of jointly commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Khalkhin Gol in 2024, noting that it would strengthen mutual understanding and trust between the two nations.
During the meeting, the Heads of State also reviewed the progress of major projects, including the central line of the "UBTZ" JVC, the modernization of the Third Thermal Power Plant, the eastern and western railways, and the construction of a natural gas pipeline through Mongolia.
