The State Opera and Ballet Academic Theatre of Mongolia will perform "Il Trovatore" (The Troubadour), one of the masterpieces of the Italian genius composer Giuseppe Verdi, this weekend on June 8 and 9, 2024.

The Opera is conducted by Ts. Telmuun-Ochir, directed by Honored Cultural Figure of Mongolia L. Erdenebulgan, with set design by People’s Painter of Mongolia Ch. Gungaasukh.

Il Trovatore is one of the three great operas composed by Italian genius Giuseppe Verdi, which established his fame. It was first staged on January 19, 1853, at the Apollo Theater in Rome. In Mongolia, the opera was performed at the State Opera and Ballet Academic Theatre on May 28, 1994.

Il Trovatore is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto largely written by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the play El Trovador (1836) by Antonio García Gutiérrez. The action of the opera takes place in 15th-century Spain.

Manrico, a noble tenor, and Count Di Luna, the brooding baritone, are unknowingly brothers, bound by a tangled past. Azucena, a tormented gypsy mezzo-soprano, fuels their hatred, having raised Manrico to avenge the death of her mother at the hands of their shared father. Leonora, the soprano, becomes the object of their desires, igniting a jealous rivalry that consumes them both. In a tragic climax, Di Luna, blinded by rage, unknowingly murders his own brother, leaving a legacy of despair and shattered lives.
