Ulaanbaatar, May 29, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia has enriched its collection with artifacts from three archeological sites.

In 2022, an expedition team of the Archeological Research Center at the National University of Mongolia excavated two tombs at the Tavan Tolgoi burial place in Ongon soum, Sukhbaatar aimag. From those tombs, 26 artifacts were uncovered and sent to the National Cultural Heritage Center for restoration. The restored artifacts, including a gold saddle featuring a twin phoenix, a bronze mirror, and silver utensils that belonged to a 13-14th century noble-woman, are now on display at the Hall of Mongol Empire and Khanates on the sixth floor of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum. 

Also, some artifacts from an archeological site called “Gol Mod 2” were handed over to the Chinggis Khaan National Museum by the Ulaanbaatar Science and Technology Park at the National University of Mongolia. The “Gol Mod 2” or Balgasan Tal archeological site, located in Undur-Ulaan soum of Arkhangai aimag is a major burial site of Hunnu (Xiongnu) noblemen. The Park previously transferred artifacts such as a belt buckle decorated with a precious stone, excavated from four Hunnu burials in the Ikh Sansar archeological site in Gobisumber aimag. These artifacts are planned to be exhibited in the Hall of Mongolian Ancient Empire on the third floor of the Museum.

Officials from the National University of Mongolia were given letters of acknowledgment, expressing gratitude for their contribution to enriching the collection of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum.
