Baasankhuu Bavuudorj Becomes Mongolia's Sixth World Judo Champion

Ulaanbaatar, May 20, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The World Judo Championships 2024 are taking place at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on May 19-24, 2024.
On the first day of the Championships, Asian Champion Baasankhuu Bavuudorj, an International Master of Sport of Mongolia, was crowned World Champion in the women's -48 kg category, defeating Scutto Assunta from Italy in the final match. It marks Mongolia's sixth gold medal earned from the World Judo Championships.
Baasankhuu’s journey to the Paris Olympics was marked by a string of victories. She first secured the title of 2024 National Champion of Mongolia, followed by the Asian Champion title. Her triumph continued as she won the Dushanbe "Grand Slam" Gold Medalist title. Finally, with her latest achievement as World Champion, Baasankhuu solidified her place in the Paris Olympics.
The Mongolian Judo Association would announce the squad for the Olympics following the World Championships. In the -48 kg category, G. Narantsetseg and B. Baasankhu were competing for a spot. So, Baasankhuu emerged as the winner of the challenge, having won the last four tournaments. Upon becoming the world champion, G. Narantsetseg, an International Master of Sports and Baasankhuu's weight rival, graciously remarked, "Congratulations, my sister. I sincerely wish you success and victory at the Olympic Games."
