Minister of Education and Science Congratulates 7-Year-Old Mongolian Winner of 3 World Chess Gold Medals
Ulaanbaatar, May 15, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On May 14, 2024, Minister of Education and Science of Mongolia Enkh-Amgalan Luvsantseren congratulated Az-Erdene Nyamdavaa for her achievement in winning three gold medals in the Girls U7 category of the FIDE World School Chess Championships in Lima, Peru.
In this year’s World School Chess Championships, Az-Erdene competed in the Girls U7 category and came out on top of 40 contestants, winning gold medals in the blitz, rapid, and standard variants.
In the 2024 FIDE World School Chess Championships, which covered six age categories, a total of 1200 chess players from 26 countries participated, including 11 players from Mongolia.
Uchral Bayarsaikhan earned eight wins and one loss, winning a gold medal in the Boys U7 category. Nandinjiguur Chinzorig claimed six wins and two draws in the Girls U9 category, also winning a gold medal. In the Boys U15 category, Fide Master Sodbileg Naranbold scored 7.5 points and secured a silver medal, and Women Candidate Master Buyankhishig Batpelden won a bronze medal in the U13 girl’s category. Bat-Amgalan Batsaikhan achieved 4th place in the U9 boys category.
Minister of Education and Science of Mongolia, Enkh-Amgalan Luvsantseren, congratulated Az-Erdene and her father/coach, Ch. Nyamdavaa, as well as the representatives of the Mongolian team for their successful participation in the Championship, wishing them success in future tournaments. Ch. Nyamdavaa coaches at the “Khukh Mongol” Chess Club in Khuvsgul aimag. Nyamdavaa mentioned that all three of his children play chess, with Az-Erdene's older siblings both holding national champion titles. He further noted that there are even more talented children than Az-Erdene in Khuvsgul aimag.
Az-Erdene began playing chess at four years old and has since achieved remarkable success, winning three gold and two bronze medals in the Mongolian National Chess Championships.
