The Symposium on “Genghis Khan and his heritage” held in Alanya
The Academy of Science of Turkey and the Alaaddin Keykubat University in cooperation with the Embassy of Mongolia organized the symposium on “Genghis Khan and his heritage” in Alanya. In his opening speech, Dr. Ekrem Kalan, rector of the Alaaddin Keykubat University Alanya pointed out that the Turkish and Mongolian history cannot be separated from each other because of ancient deep-rooted history between two nations. The agenda of the symposium consists of four main topics such as Genghis Khan’s era and its perception, Genghis khan’s successors’ actions in the Middle East, Philological and cultural heritage of Genghis khan and his successors and the Architectural sites and remains of Genghis Khan’s era. Moreover, 18 lecturers and academicians from 12 different universities and museums spoke on the topics related the heritage of Genghis Khan and Mongolia in Turkey. For instant, Dr. Abdullah Gundodu, from the Ankara University spoke on “Historic perceptions on Genghis Khan in Turkey and Turkic world”, Dr. Mehmet Ulmez attracted the audience with “Word traces orgınated from the 13th centurian Mongolian language in Istanbul” and Dr. Elkir Evrim Binbash revealed Genghis Khan and his successors’ traces kept in museums and archives to the audience. The symposıum was closed by the remarks of H.E. Dr. R.Bold, Ambassador of Mongolia to Turkey who underlined that thanks to the symposium previously unknown remains of the Mongolian heritage in Turkey being revealed to the public and offered to strengthen bilateral cooperation in finding and exploring Mongolian heritages in Turkey. He also suggested to work together on a joint research album dedicated to the Mongolian Heritages in Turkey. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, Presıdent of the Academy of Scıence of Turkey confirmed his readiness to continue that cooperation and stated to publish a compendium of lectures of all participants.
The symposium is one of measures organized by the Mongolian embassy with the support of The Academy of Science of Turkey to implement directions of Mr. Khurelsukh, Prime Minister of Mongolia to pay attention in exploring Mongolian heritages in connection with the start of the construction of the Genghis Khan museum in Ulaanbaatar city.
